“C”rown Royal
MARKHAM - The Markham Royals have named Lucas Condotta as their Captain for the upcoming 2016 - 2017 season, taking over the position held by graduated forward Aaron Spivak last year.
In 131 career games in the OJHL, Condotta has 15 goals (10 of which came last season) and 32 points, along with 32 Penalty Minutes and 4 game winning goals. In 9 playoff games last year with the Royals, Condotta was a helping hand recording 8 assists.
“It’s a true honour to be named Captain of the Royals”, said the Georgetown native, “I’m really proud to have my coaches and teammates believe in me and I can’t wait to get the season started”.
“We are honoured to make Lucas the Captain of our hockey club,” says Royals Head Coach Mike Galati. “He is a leader in every way. It has been a treat to watch him grow into not only a top player in the league but into a great young man as well.”
Condotta is entering his 4th season in the OJHL, starting with the Pickering Panthers in 2012-13 as a rookie playing a handful of games before playing 44 games in 2013-14. He split time between Pickering and Hamilton in 2014-15, before relocating with the Red Wings franchise to Markham last summer.
“Starting out on the 4th line in Pickering getting a couple shifts a game, and standing here now is a great accomplishment. Coach Mike (Galati) has been with me for almost my entire Junior career and he’s been a great influence in my development.”
“Lucas does everything right on the ice and in the dressing room,” said Royals Assistant Coach Spencer Hyman. “He is everything a coach can ask for and more. He earned the right to wear the ‘C’, and we are proud to announce him as Captain of the Royals!”
Condotta is currently uncommitted past next season, and is currently focused on leading the Royals in the upcoming 2016 - 2017 season to defend their North Division Crown.
Congratulations Lucas!
